Culture, Architecture, Theory: Debate Series
Developed the visual identity and art direction for The Fencing of Architecture and the Villa of the Architect, a debate in the architectural series accompanying Truth and Lies in Architecture. Drawing on the essay’s critique of boundaries, private ownership and architectural detachment, I translated its central ideas into a collection of conceptually driven artworks for event promotion and industry media.
Inspired by renowned Australian artists’ Shaun Tan and Joan Ross, using their similar portrayal of ideas and themes explored in the essays’ critique, I developed a visual narrative that reinterprets Tan’s rabbit allegory and Ross’ use of fluorescent yellow to communicate the intrusion of foreign elements, territorial division and ecological destruction through the lens of architectural ownership.
The series spanned four instalments across Sydney and Brisbane, featuring leading architects, writers and cultural practitioners, with sponsorship from Think Brick and endorsement from the Australian Institute of Architects. My responsibilities extended from visual concept development and campaign design to event delivery, including venue planning, panellist engagement, sponsor liaison, speaker communications and attendee management. I also oversaw event recording and post-production, editing video highlights and speaker excerpts for promotional campaigns and publishing full-length recordings to extend the discussions’ reach beyond the events.
